When my oldest son was a baby, Sean and I visited Kiawah Island on the 4th of July. The island was smaller then, so we met lots of neat people, rode bikes around the island, and enjoyed the ocean. However, the main highlight of the trip for me was on the next to last night of our stay- the fireworks display.
Kiawah set the fireworks off on the beach, so as the surf pounded against the shore, the beautiful lights from the fireworks shone in the sky and reflected on the water. The fireworks seemed to go on forever. Kiawah even used the fireworks to “spell” words in the sky; it was awesome and very memorable!
This is the last week of our Bible Study. Summer is over and my family is gearing up for a new school year. In a few days we will be back “in the grind” as we rush from school to work to other activities and I will have less time to blog. Since this is our last Bible Study blog for a while, I felt that it was important to “go out with a bang”; I wanted to leave you with something awesome and memorable.
The most awesome and memorable idea that I can come up with is the idea of faith, specifically the idea of faith in Jesus Christ. Our last Bible Study of the summer will discuss this idea, which is the essence and foundation of our religion.
Like the fireworks, faith delivers the “big bang” and is important for at least three reasons. First, Romans 4:16 tells us that we receive the promise of a right relationship with God (or righteousness or salvation) by faith and that it is a free gift. Second, in Hebrews chapter 11, we learn that the promises of God are received by faith. Third, Proverbs 23: 7 says that as a man thinks so is he; “right believing” leads to an abundant life.
I hope you will join us this week as we look at the questions, “What is faith?” “Why is it important?” and “How do we get faith when it feels like we don’t have any?” Let’s end summer with a bang!
Thanks for reading!
Love ya!
Robin
